Car lockouts

We open locked cars where they are parked, from Everett to Tacoma and in West Seattle, and we work with many vehicle makes and models. When you call, tell us the make, model and year, and the address or the nearest landmark.

Methods to avoid

The coat-hanger trick only works on some older cars and can tear the weather stripping or pull on the wiring inside the door. Breaking a window costs far more than a lockout, and you can get hurt. If the key is lost rather than locked inside, getting the door open is only half the problem: you still need a key that starts the car.

Key stuck in the ignition

When the key won’t turn or won’t come out, the usual cause is a worn key or a worn ignition lock cylinder. We repair or replace the ignition lock cylinder and can make a new key to go with it.

Car door and trunk locks

We repair and replace car door and trunk locks that no longer turn, are damaged, or stopped opening.

Broken key in a car lock or ignition

If a key snaps off in a door lock, the trunk or the ignition, we extract the broken piece and can replace the key.

Lost car key or a fob that stopped working

We replace car keys and fobs, including key cutting and programming where the vehicle supports it. See car key replacement.

What is a car locksmith?

A locksmith who works on vehicle locks and keys. We open locked cars and replace car keys and fobs, including key cutting and programming where the vehicle supports it, for many makes and models.

Do I need to tow the car to you?

No. We are a mobile locksmith: the technician comes to the car, at home, at work or in a parking lot, in Seattle and nearby cities.

My key is stuck in the ignition. What should I do?

Check the car is in Park, then turn the steering wheel gently while you turn the key: a locked steering column often holds the key. Do not force it or use pliers, which can break it inside. If it still will not move, call us: we repair and replace ignition lock cylinders.
